VOLNEY – Oswego County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a collision on County Route 6 south of County Route 9 in the town of Volney.
The incident was reported to the 911 Center at about 5:30 this afternoon (Sept. 2).
A 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck was being driven north on County Route 6 when it crossed the center line of the road, exited the west shoulder, struck a large tree, struck and snapped a utility pole and overturned.
The driver, Matthew Barnum, 19, of State Route 3, Fulton, was the sole occupant of the truck and was entrapped in the vehicle.
Rescue crews from the Volney Fire Department and Menter Ambulance Service responded to extricate and treat Barnum.
A helicopter from Mercy Flight then airlifted Barnum to University Hospital in Syracuse.
The matter remains under investigation.
