ONEONTA, N.Y. – Lisa O’Callaghan (Fr., New Hyde Park, N.Y.) gave the Oswego State field hockey team (1-6, 1-2 SUNYAC) a one-goal lead in the first half, but Oneonta (6-2, 3-0 SUNYAC) responded by scoring six unanswered goals for a 6-1 win on Saturday.
Jess Felice (Sr., Endicott, N.Y.) found O’Callaghan open in the center of the circle, as she scored her second marker of the season in the 21st minute. Just over two minutes later, Ashley Johnson hit the back of the cage to start the Red Dragons’ scoring streak.
Oneonta received a goal from Ashley Morgan in the 27th minute followed by a pair of Sara Rattigan goals in the 28th and 30th minutes to give the home team a 4-1 lead at the break.
The deficit remained three goals until Sierra Earle and Ashley Morgan got the ball past Laker goalie Nicole Moccaldi (Fr., East Islip, N.Y.) after both of their shots were deflected by Oswego State defenders.
Oneonta out-shot the visitors, 21-2, as Moccaldi finished the game with eight saves.
The Lakers have a re-match on the road against Houghton on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
