Can We Make Fulton’s Downtown More Attractive As A Destination For Residents, Visitors?

To The Editor:

While I enjoyed shopping at this year’s farmers’ market at its new location at Bullhead Point and talking with the vendors and meeting friends, I miss the attraction of the market downtown.

The market is more than a store; it’s a place for the community to come together.

In a way it’s a community wide social event.

I’ve spoken with friends from Towpath Towers and others that live or work downtown and they have expressed similar feelings about the need for more downtown social activities.

“Tunes in June” at the downtown gazebo is a great way for our community to come together and to attract visitors.

The music, the food, and the people are wonderful.

Folks of all ages come outside.

They bring their lawns chairs and wheeled walkers or just sit on the stone walls or picnic benches and enjoy the day in downtown Fulton.

Some even dance and join in the singing.

I’d love to see more of this entertainment and attraction, more of this social event, downtown.

Could Wednesday’s “Tunes” run through July?

Could “farmers’ market” booths be added to “Tunes” the same way the musicians and restaurants rotate with a few different vendors each week?

Could a sidewalk art or quilt show be added or start a whole attraction to take place on a weekend?

Fulton is quietly changing.

We are busy making walking trails through the city.

New businesses are opening.

There are so many things happening in Fulton that need to be celebrated.

Our community is improving.

Fulton Block Builders is adding so much to our community in the way of bringing people together and making our city more attractive.

Let’s add more activities to our downtown to attract visitors and show them the appeal of Fulton.

Fulton is a great place to live – I’m glad I’m a Fultonian.

I want to build on what is working, add to our downtown entertainment, shopping and socializing, and share it with everyone, residents and visitors alike!
