David Cordone Sr.: Misrepresented and Disappointed

Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter as a member of the Fulton Board of Education. I was so disappointed by the article in a local printed publication that left out much of my comments made publicly at the Fulton Board of Education Meeting on September 15. First, I believe that our superintendent (not the Board, because it’s not our responsibility) has done his best to create a “Re-entry Plan” for all of our students (Pre-k through grade 12), with his administrative team. I do not agree with the decision to “Opt-out of Fall Sports.” I stated that in the recorded Board Meeting of September 15. It is my position that the social and emotional health of our student athletes is not served well by this decision, and their voice was not considered before the decision was made. These students have made healthy choices to devote their energy and commitment to participate in athletics, and this option has been taken away from them because there is potential fear for the transmission of the COVID Virus amongst athletes between school districts.
My main point was missed by the reporter for the local print-media source. I believe this decision should have been left to the parents of our students. None of us can forecast the future. We just need to follow the guidance of the professionals. As has been stated, the Governor has allowed for fall sports to occur, and I am so sad for the students of the Fulton CSD that they are being denied this opportunity.
Respectfully,
David Cordone Sr.
