Friday’s Briefing: Dog Days

Today’s roundup of news from around the state comes on one of the dog days of Summer, a day when many of us try to get out of work early or start a long weekend vacation.  News is like that, too.

• Wont get fooled again:  State Police want to increase the Governor’s security detail[1], after ex-Gov. Spitzer gave them the slip a few too many times.
• Speaking of whom, Spitzer’s sending refunds to donors who want money back, but they won’t get it all[2].
• From adult porn (scandalous but not illegal) to kiddie porn (definitely illegal): AG Cuomo gets more internet providers to block access to child porn[3].
• Snowmobile trails will get more state cash[4].
• Gov. Paterson’s at a school choice conference in Wyoming[5].
• Before he left, he signed a bill that will allow alcohol in college classrooms[6].

Apropos Of Not Very Much:

• NYPD fights and loses, will have to make public[7] details of half a million “stop and frisks”.
• Minimum wage rises faster in NY State than average wages[8], not that you’d want to live on it.
• How many Shelly Silvers[9] could be on the ballot this year?
