Tuesday’s Briefing: Golisano’s Millions

by Contributor | July 8, 2008 3:56 pm

Rochester business millionaire, and former Independence Party candidate for Governor, Tom Golisano wants to elect people who think like he does. So do you, I would guess. But Golisano’s putting lots of his money where his mouth is.

Golisano Tuesday said he’s got $5 million[1] for candidates who vote for the things he believes in. He says the cash’ll go to candidates of any party[2]. Some wonder how he’ll pull it off, legally speaking[3].

Meantime, Senator Hillary Clinton appears ready to help Democrats flip the State Senate[4].

Around The Capitol:

Here’s how state agencies plan to cut their budgets[5], as Gov. Paterson’s ordering.

Something the Legislature left undone in its rush to get out of town may soon be visible[6] in a town near you.

A “glitch” in justice puts felons on the street[7].

Department Of Sex:

Gov. Paterson defends his same-sex order but says he understands where opponents are coming from[8].

Ex-Gov. Spitzer’s famous call girl’s next job? What else: Reality TV[9]. However, the folks at Girls Gone Wild may have an Ashley Dupre show of their own[10].

Department Of Health:

A plan to map cancer cases may violate your privacy[11].

Chuck Schumer comes out swinging to defend Mom-and-Pop pharmacies[12].

You’ve clicked it[13].

Why I Don’t Get New York City:

They’ll say no to a $1 taxi fare hike[14], which drivers want because of soaring gas prices…

…but jack up the fine for jumping the turnstiles[15] on the subway, just because they can.

Today’s Pick:

Don’t defend the crime if you can’t solve the rhyme[16].

Is there something we missed? Drop it in the comments.
