At a Common Council meeting on 6/17 I asked why a complete agenda, listing all the information, wasn’t posted on the City of Fulton website!
The Mayor preceded to read from a handbook. It basically stated what was required by Open Meetings Law.
I then said ‘That is what is required but tell me why the full agenda isn’t listed”
The Mayor (After some prodding) said “I gave you my answer”
I again said ‘That is what is required but there is nothing stopping you from posting the information on the website”
A discussion went on as how a person could obtain the information, via: F.O.I.L. or coming into city hall to ask for a copy of the information.
I again said “that is an extra step the public would have to do to find out the information that should be posted on the city website. I stated that “Transparency” is what the Mayor ran on to get elected.
People should know all the information about action items before coming to a meeting. They may want to ask questions, but if they aren’t informed, they won’t ask questions. They also won’t sign up to talk if they aren’t prepared to ask good sound questions.
So in a nutshell, the mayor says “I’m not required to tell the taxpayers anything more than I have”
