To The Editor,
I would like to encourage everyone to get out and support this year’s Fulton School District budget.
This year’s budget is a modest increase in spending from the previous year.
The spending increase is 2.47% similar to what anyone might expect their own spending to increase from year to year.
The tax levy for local taxpayers will only increase .43%.
This is in part due to a request the board made last year to reduce last year’s tax increase.
This budget maintains all current programs and services for our students.
The additions to this year’s budget include the P-Tech Program, Capital Outlay and this year’s budget targets reducing class sizes for our K – 2 students.
Superintendent Lynch recently stated, “This is the smallest increase proposed in my 11 years as superintendent.”
As a current member of the board, I take great pride in playing a small part in this process.
As some of you may know, I am running for re-election this year.
But what may be unclear is what I have been part of in my five years on the board.
I have been a voice for the taxpayers trying to keep our taxes livable and our programs intact.
I have advocated and supported all of our students within the district.
I have represented our school board on the Oswego County School Board and I have lobbied our local elected officials to support education in our community.
I have donated blood for the GRB Student Senate blood drives, I have volunteered with Quirks Players, supported our students in the OCAY League, represented the board at the Mock DWI events and volunteered for the Booster Club.
I only wish I had more time to contribute to all these student centered activities.
This past year, I was very pleased to be a board representative during contract talks.
This was an overwhelming opportunity to hear first hand what concerns our teachers have.
I was also honored to be able to bring some of those concerns back to my board colleagues.
So these are a few examples of how I have worked hard for the taxpayers, students, parents, teachers and staff of this district.
I have been very proud to serve all of the many groups of the FCSD community through my board service.
If re-elected I would continue to work for you in the same manner.
Additionally, I feel my years of board experience would be an asset to our new superintendent.
Serving my school community has been a great passion of mine.
Sometimes over the years I have had to spend less time being a husband and father and friend.
I hope in the long-run my small sacrifices will only make my community a better place to live.
Thank you for your time and the time you have given me to serve my community.
