Thank you Sen. Gillibrand for Promoting the NY ERA

Senator Kirsten Gilibrand is the only statewide elected leader I’ve seen raising awareness of the New York Equal Rights Amendment that is Prop 1 on the ballot this year. So many people still don’t know about it, so I appreciate how she has been the most vocal and encouraging people to vote yes.
Voting yes on Prop 1 means we would take the current freedoms we all enjoy granted to us by state law and put them into the state constitution. Right now the law is that our state government and the agencies it funds can’t discriminate against you for characteristics like LGBTQ status, age, or pregnancy status. We all agree that a police officer who choses to get an abortion or a teacher with a photo of her wife on her desk should not lose their jobs.

Everyone agrees that these freedoms are a good thing, so we need to ensure they will be locked into our state constitution forever and ever. As we have seen in other states, laws can be overturned and everyday folks lose their rights. When you vote yes on Prop 1, you’re helping to make sure that all New Yorkers keep their freedom so the state government can’t discriminate against us.
