Ostrander, Kapuscinski Named Oswego Kartway Drivers of the Year

OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Kartway’s annual awards banquet was held last Saturday night at Lighthouse Lanes in Oswego with some 150 guests in attendance for the year end gathering.

The regular season’s 11 track champions were honored receiving a beautiful trophy from Platinum Promotional Products as well as a champion’s jacket from Top Stitch and a gift certificate from RJ Kart Sales.

The six semi-pro champions of the inaugural RJ Kart Sales Fall Frenzy Series were also awarded championship plaques from Platinum Promotional.

Among the awards handed out Saturday was the first ever Driver of the Year honor for both Junior (5-14 years) and Senior (15 and up) divisions.  Nominees in each category were selected by either winning a regular season track championship, or claiming three main event wins during the year.

Drivers in attendance at the banquet would then vote for their peers to determine the overall Driver of the Year in each category.

Junior Driver of the Year nominees included Josh Ostrander, Dylan Trump, Carl Emmons III, Alex Losurdo, Matthew Barbour, and Madison Baum.

Ostrander would be named Junior Driver of the Year for 2013 with a total of 9 main event wins on the season including a track championship in the Senior Blue Clone division.

Senior Driver of the Year nominees included Dan Kapuscinski, Chris Natoli, Joe Hayden, DJ Shuman, Chris Knight, BJ Ingersoll, Ron Billings, Takota Jacobson, Kaylynn Simmons, Corey Norton, Jake Sivers, and Dick Dann.

Voters would select Kapuscinski as the Senior Driver of the Year with victories in 12 of 13 starts including a pair of Classic Weekend wins, the $1,000 RJ Kart Sales Fall Frenzy 100 Championship, and a Stock Heavy track title.

Among the special prizes handed out on Saturday were the annual Rewards Program awards, made eligible to Oswego Kartway racers with outstanding attendance in 2013.

Clone Light racer Aaron Sheldon won the night’s grand prize, a brand new Slack Axiom kart chassis valued at over $2,000, prepared by Root Racing Enterprises.

Fellow Clone Light racer Takota Jacobson walked out with a brand new set of wheels and tires from Burris Racing Tire.

Junior Gold Plate driver Kelsey Wright was awarded a gift certificate for a brand new Clone engine build from RJ Kart Sales.

A total of 63 drivers were eligible for the three grand prizes, with 44 of those having perfect attendance, making them eligible for the brand new Slack Axiom.

A tentative 2014 Oswego Kartway schedule was unveiled at the banquet with 13 point races currently scheduled before the annual Oswego Kartway Classic once again to be held on Thursday of Budweiser International Classic Weekend at Oswego Speedway.

The three race dates for the 2014 Fall Frenzy were also debuted with Friday night dates for the qualifying nights on September 5 and September 12, while the series finale this year will be run on September 20.
