Do you want to be part of a team that improves the lives of youth in Oswego County?
The Oswego AmeriCorps program is seeking applications for the 2013-2014 term of service.
AmeriCorps members serve with local schools and non-profit agencies by mentoring, providing fitness and nutrition education, and managing volunteers.
Applications are currently being accepted for several 900-hour AmeriCorps positions that will start Oct. 1.
AmeriCorps, a national service program, is known as the domestic Peace Corps.
Openings are located at Catholic Charities of Oswego County, Fairgrieve Elementary School, Fulton Family YMCA, Hannibal High School, Lanigan Elementary School, Leighton Elementary School, Mexico Elementary School, New Haven Elementary School and Oswego Community Christian School.
Additional sites will be added.
AmeriCorps members in 900-hour positions receive a modest living allowance of $6,527 paid in biweekly paychecks.
At the end of their term of service, 900-hour members receive an education award of $2,775 which can be used to pay tuition or student loans at qualified institutions.
Members who are age 55 or older at the time of their start in AmeriCorps can transfer the education award to their children or grandchildren.
AmeriCorps members can receive forbearance on qualified student loans.
If the term of service is completed successfully, all or part of the interest that accrued during the term can be paid by the National Service Trust.
Applicants should have some prior experience working with youth.
Applicants must be at least 17 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED. There is no upper age limit.
