Oswego’s boys varsity volleyball team opened its season with a three-set win over Wayne on September 4.
The scores: 25-12, 25-8, 25-21
Gary Carpentier recorded 6 kills for the Bucs while Kevin O’Connor had 12 assists.
O’Connor “did a great job of spreading out the sets and each of our hitters had a chance to contribute,” said coach Mike Shea. “The guys have been working on learning a system of volleyball for the past three years and right from the outset this year are showing that they know what that system is and executing it. There were very few missed serves which has been a problem for us in the past. It was nice to see Ian Van Wert step up and be a legitimate option for us when we need to put the ball away.”
Dave Abare: 5 kills, 2 blocks, 1 ace.
Gary Carpentier: 6 kills, 3 digs, 1 block, 2 aces.
Fred Johnson: 2 digs, 1 block.
Paul Kio: 3 kills.
John Oleyourryk: 1 kill, 1 block, 1 ace.
Kevin O’Connor: 1 kill, 12 assists, 1 dig, 1 ace.
Tom Ruggio: 3 digs, 1 ace.
