Oswego, NY – The Oswego Clearview Squirt hockey lost a tough 2-1 game against Ithaca, and then shutout visiting Elmira 5-0 in recent Snowbelt League action, according to Oswego Head Coach Eric Koproski.

Oswego improved to 16-9-2 overall on the season.

“The kids played some great hockey against Ithaca and Elmira,” said Koproski. “We had a lot of great chances against Ithaca in the loss, but the team rebounded nicely the following day winning against Elmira.”

In the matchup with Ithaca, all of the action took place in the first period. After Ithaca took a 1-0 lead just minutes into the game, Oswego’s Nick Burnett scored for Oswego, off assists from Isaiah Raby and Spencer Stepien. Ithaca quickly responded seconds later to take the 2-1 lead, and held on over the remaining two periods to notch the victory.

“It was a difficult game to lose because we maintained control of the puck in the offensive end most of the game,” said Koproski. “Their goalie just played very strong.”

Oswego had 26 shots on Ithaca’s net, while goalie Tyler Wallace stopped 16 attempts.

The following day, Oswego took on Elmira at the Cullinan Ice Rink. After a scoreless first period, Alex Koproski put Oswego on the board with an unassisted goal at 11:06 in the second period. Oswego then took over in the third period with four more goals, including two by Burnett, one by Andrew Noyes, and another off the stick of Mason Bricker. Stepien and Burnett added assists.

Wallace had 29 saves to secure the win and capture his fourth shut out of the season.

According to Koproski the stellar defense of Bryson Bush, Lane Phillips, and Patrick Galvin helped in the win, as well as the forward play of Jeremy Susino and Jack Stephens.

Scoring included:
Oswego vs Ithaca: Burnett 1 goal; Raby 1 assist; and Stepien 1 assist.
Oswego vs. Elmira: Burnett 2 goals and 1 assist; Koproski 1 goal; Andrew Noyes 1 goal; Mason Bricker 1 goal; and Stepien 1 assist.
