Oswego, NY – The SUNY Oswego Campus Center will welcome hundreds of shavees, volunteers, and supporters for the annual St. Baldrick’s event on Thursday, March 22nd at 7:00 pm.
A team of area athletes including Oswego Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) players, as well as numerous Oswego youth/adults – including dozens of female participants, and businesses/organizations have been actively raising money to help support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation’s fight against childhood cancer.
Each year 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer worldwide. Cancer is the number one disease killer of children in the U.S. and Canada. Research saves lives, and all monies raised at this event will go towards the research of childhood cancer. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any other organization, with exception of the US government).
Once again this year, a number of Oswego-area individuals have volunteered to shave their heads to support this worthwhile cause. Local barbers and hair salons including the Downtown Barber and Shave Company will also attend the event to donate their time and skills to shave the shavees.
The community is strongly encouraged to come out and support St. Baldrick’s Foundation and all of the participants.
According to event organizers, the OMHA and St. Baldrick’s Foundation also have a variety of donated raffle table prizes for the evening, as well as signed NHL player jerseys to be auctioned. The NHL jerseys include Erik Cole, Erik Staal, and Patrick Kaleta.
