OSWEGO, NY – On Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Sheldon Ballroom on the campus of SUNY Oswego, the Oswego Community Youth Orchestra will begin its fifth season with: To Boldly Go Where No One Has Gone Before.”
It is a program of music with “outer world” themes.
Under the direction of conductor Jacqueline Darvill, works will include “Jupiter” from The Planets by Gustave Holst, themes from Antonin Dvorak’s “New World” Symphony, and music from movie adventures including Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Trek.
Also featured in this concert will be violinist Deborah Mazurek.
Mazurek, a well-respected orchestra director in the Oswego city schools, will be joined by three OCYO members: Emilie Benigno, Mackenzie Palmer and MaryCate Rice to perform Vivaldi’s Concerto for Four Violins.

The Oswego Community Youth Orchestra seeks to challenge and nurture young area musicians to strive for excellence, to explore their role in humanity, and to contribute beauty to the community, through the study and performance of orchestral music.
