Oswego County Bicentennial Committee Announces Photo Contest

OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Bicentennial Committee is sponsoring a photo contest this summer to celebrate the county’s 200th anniversary.

The finalists in several categories will be displayed in the Heritage Building at the Oswego County Fair in August.

Winners will be honored at a reception at the Tailwater Lodge in Altmar later this summer.

Debbie Allen, New Haven Town Clerk and a member of the County Bicentennial Committee, is chairing the photo contest.

“We’re looking for black and white and color photos that portray our county’s beauty and unique heritage,” said Allen. “The photos will be available to the town historians and the county tourism office for their use in displays and publications. Our local historians have selected a variety of categories that reflect important aspects of the county’s history.”

Entries must be submitted to the County Tourism Office by Aug. 5.

Horizontal and vertical photos will be judged in the following categories: agriculture; architecture; wildlife; scenic (landscapes, sunsets. seasons); recreation;  the arts (music, drama, murals, etc.); monuments (cemeteries and public monuments); patriotic (veterans, flags, Americana); and historic ruins or relics (including old farm equipment and old vehicles).

The organizing committee will select up to 10 finalists in each category.

The final photos will be displayed in the Heritage Building at the Oswego County Fair in Sandy Creek from Aug. 10 to 14, where fairgoers may vote for their favorite in each category.
