The check represents the funds raised during Food Bank of Central New York T-shirt sales and personal donations from employees.

They plan to show their support of the Food Bank’s hunger-relief mission throughout September, Hunger Action Month.

September is Hunger Action Month across the United States and right here in Central New York.

Hunger Action Month is a public call to action on behalf of the increasing number of people in need of food assistance across the county.

In the Food Bank’s eleven county service area of central and northern New York: 1 in 6 people are food insecure – meaning that they do not know where their next meal will come from, 30% of emergency food recipients are children under the age of 18 and 42% of emergency food recipients have had to make the decision between purchasing food and paying for their mortgage, rent or utilities.

“We understand the importance of supporting our community partners, and are thankful we were able to raise funds and awareness for the Food Bank. 132 employees participated in purchasing t-shirts to wear during Hunger Action Month,” said Gidget Stevens from Oswego County Department of Social Services.

“We are thankful for our partners at Oswego County DSS and everywhere in our eleven county service area. With their help we are able to raise funds and awareness so that we can continue our hunger-relief mission,” added Karen Belcher, COO at Food Bank of Central New York.
