Oswego County History Recounted in Sailors Guidebook

What do a spy for the American Revolution, a 1,400-pound wheel of cheese, President Andrew Jackson, the Oswego, NY docks, the yacht West Wind, and the coal carrier Acacia have in common?

They are all the subject of stories in author Steve Benson’s Sailors, Keepers, Shipwrecks and the Maid, a collection of maritime-theme history vignettes published by the Great Lakes Seaway Trail.

The book includes the tales of ordinary heroes and famous Americans, fish stories, lighthouse lore, and humorous accounts of happenings along the St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario, Niagara River and Lake Erie in New York and Pennsylvania.
