OSWEGO – Residents at St. Francis Commons Assisted Living Residence were treated to a wonderful performance when the 40-plus members of the Oswego County New Horizons Band visited.
Members of the band (pictured), performed a wide variety of musical numbers, including some with a decidedly patriotic feel.
The Oswego New Horizons Band and Chorus began in the late 1990s as the Oswego New Horizons Band.
In October 2008, the chorus was added. And, in November 2009, the organization officially became the Oswego County New Horizons Band and Chorus.
The group draws members from across Oswego County and several from neighboring Cayuga and Onondaga counties.
Instrumentalists are seniors 50 years of age or older.
Some members have performed throughout their lives, but most were musicians in their youth who put their musical pursuits aside to work and raise families.
Others have taken up an instrument for the first time or an instrument new to them.
The 44-member band, which includes strings and a 45-member chorus, perform independently and jointly at various area events and adult care facilities.
St. Francis Commons Assisted Living Residence is a part of The St. Luke Family of Caring, an affiliation of community-based, not-for-profit healthcare providers serving the greater Oswego County area.
