The first, second and third place winners, as well as honorable mention winners, from each grade level were called to the stage at Mexico High School’s auditorium to receive a certificate and ribbon.

Each first place winner was also afforded the opportunity to read their winning entry before a packed crowd full of overjoyed family members and friends.

“As always, the auditorium was full of family and friends of the award winners,” said Altmar-Parish-Williamstown teacher Cheryl Potts, who helped coordinate the event. “This year’s writing entries were among the best written that we’ve seen in a long time. Perhaps the relevant topic was the motivation for students to speak out honestly about America’s freedoms.”
