OSWEGO – Legislator Mary Ellen Chesbro, District 10, Phoenix, recently updated the Legislature’s Economic Development and Planning Committee on the Lock I Distillery business plans.
The distillery opened a new tasting room at 17 Culvert St., Phoenix, and is believed to be the first distillery in Oswego County since Prohibition began in the 1920s.
Owners Brenden Backus, Kevin Dates, and Stephen Dates started the business a little more than a year ago with clear unaged spirits.
Their Ryze Vodka has won awards in national and world competitions.
They’ve also produced two gins: Drawbridge and Locktender; and two flavored whiskeys: Candy Cane and Inferno.
A bourbon is currently being aged with plans to unveil the product in two years.
The distillery is open from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and offers beer and wine from other New York producers as well as their own products.
