The Hannibal Central School District hosted the event at Dennis M. Kenney Middle School, as dozens of food service workers from all districts in Oswego County met and elected officers, enjoyed food and participated in team-building activities.

According to HCSD Food Service Director Nancy Younglove, the meeting provided area school food service personnel with an opportunity to connect with folks from neighboring districts.

“People are able to socialize and get to know people from other districts,” Younglove said. “It’s a welcoming environment, with basket raffles, 50/50 (raffles) and food.”

Younglove noted that all the food was prepared and donated by Kevin Pelkey, of Deli Boy food distribution; Alicia Maloney, of At Your Service food sales; and Jodi Billings, of The Core Group food service sales agency.

“We’re so thankful to them for providing all of the food,” Younglove said, noting that the theme of the night was “being joyful isn’t what makes you grateful, rather being grateful is what makes you joyful.”

Echoing those sentiments, Superintendent Christopher Staats and HCSD Business Official Nancy Dingman expressed their gratitude to all attendees.

“We bank on ensuring our students get a good meal every day,” Staats said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s 100 degrees with 100 percent humidity, our food service department produces regardless. On behalf of our students and our district, I wish to applaud you and thank you for your hard work.”
