Oswego County Sheriff’s Office: Friday, 8/28/09

On 8/23/09 at 12:24 a.m., Samantha A. Perez, 19, of 1151 County Route 3 Bldg #4, Hannibal, NY and a 17 year old male residing at the same address were arrested for Disorderly Conduct following a disturbance on CR 3 in the Town of Hannibal where the two allegedly were yelling obscenities in the presence of civilians and Ms. Perez refused to remove herself from the roadway causing a hazard for traffic. Both individuals were issued appearance tickets to appear in the Town of Hannibal Court, Ms. Perez on 9/8/09 and the male on 9/1/09.

On 8/26/09, Samantha L. Tuff, 38, of 303 Lower Rd., West Monroe, NY was arrested at 4:05 p.m. for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a MV, 3rd degree( 2 scoffs on 2 dates, Town of Cicero, failure to answer summons and Town of Adams, Jefferson County for failure to answer summons) and Failure to Notify Address Change following a traffic stop on Lower Rd. in the Town of West Monroe during a STEP speed enforcement detail. Ms. Tuff was issued UTT’s, returnable to the Town of Constantia Court on 9/14/09.

On 8/27/09 at 8:51 a.m., Anthony B. Barber, 35, of 1340 Flintown Road, Ava, NY was arrested for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a MV, 3rd degree ( failure to pay fine in the town of Lee) and Speed Exceeding 55 mph following a traffic stop on County Route 2 in the Town of Redfield. Mr. Barber was issued UTT’s, returnable to the Redfield Town Court on 9/16/09.

On 8/27/09, a 17 year old male residing in the Town of Mexico was charged with Assault, 3rd degree stemming from an altercation in which he allegedly punched an individual in the face on Main Street in the Village of Mexico. He was issued an appearance ticket, returnable to the Mexico Town Court on 9/15/09.

    To my knowledge, there is nothing illegal about yelling anything in public. I find it offensive that the local sherriff’s deputy would even waste the time to denote such activity. It’s called freedom of speech and if an individual wants to use foul language, there’s nothing to stop them legally (short of a sherriff who makes up their own laws along the way).
