OSWEGO, NY – Oswego County residents have been making preparations to welcome Livia Satterfield on her Sept. 16-17 visit to Watertown.
Twelve-year-old Livia had lived in a Romanian orphanage for 10 years when she received a shoe box filled with hair clips, school supplies, hygiene items and small toys.
That Operation Christmas Child gift and its message of hope and love changed her life.
Now a national spokesperson for the outreach project that is a mission of the international Christian relief and evangelical organization Samaritan’s Purse led by Dr. Billy Graham’s son, Franklin Graham, Livia will visit New Life Christian Church, 1222 Arsenal St., in Watertown as part of the 2011 Operation Christmas Child Full Circle Speaker Tour Sept. 16-17.
On Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. and Sept. 17 at 9:30 a.m., Livia will share her story of the impact of that shoe box on her life and how she has come “full circle” to now helping distribute Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes to other orphans.
The Saturday 9:30 a.m. presentation includes a Shoe Box Packing Party. The programs are free for all ages. Those attending are encouraged to bring a small toy or small gift item for the boxes.
Volunteer organizers representing Operation Christmas Child’s New York North Central Area that includes Oswego, Oneida, Herkimer, Jefferson and Lewis counties are collecting materials with a goal of packing at least 500 shoe box gifts Saturday morning with Livia.
