Oswego, NY – Members of the Oswego Firefighter’s Association Local #2707 have once again teamed up with other businesses in the community to support this holiday season’s US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program in Oswego, according to local Toys for Tots Coordinator Chris Jones.
“We really appreciate the support of the Oswego Firefighters, who continue to display their tremendous act of kindness,” said Jones. “Knowing that we have bettered the Christmas experience for families in need all across our community is what motivates our ongoing partnership.”
According to Jones, the Oswego Firefighters have gathered and donated hundreds of toys for families over the past years.
In addition to the Oswego Firefighters Association #2707, community support for this year’s toy drive includes: The Broadwell Hospitality Group (Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center, Quality Inn & Suites Riverfront, Best Western Captain’s Quarters, and GS Steamers), Step One Creative, The Oswego Lake City Police Club, The Oswego Border Patrol, Oswego Coast Guard, and Oswego County Sheriff’s.
“It’s a great feeling to be back again this year in support of the annual Toys for Tots program,” said Lt. Brooks Hourigan of the Oswego Firefighter’s Association Local #2707. “We highly value the connection to our community and see this as a great way to give back to the people who are in need the most.”
Members of the Oswego Fire Department will escort Santa and be on hand for this weekend’s fourth annual Toys for Tots Day of Sharing benefit, that will be held on Saturday, November 24th beginning at noon at the new Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center, adjacent to the Best Western Captain’s Quarters at 26 East First Street in Oswego. Santa Claus will arrive at 2:00 pm for children to have their picture taken with for free when a contribution is made to the Toys for Tots drop box at the event. All day activities will also include a choir, numerous raffle baskets, Christmas stories, showing of classic Christmas cartoons, and variety of holiday arts and crafts. Event goers can also purchase limited edition Toys for Tots ornaments with a minimal donation of $5.
Since the program was founded in 1947, every year Toys for Tots provides grateful families nationwide with the joy of a new gift on Christmas. The mission of the Toys for Tots program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November, and December each year, and distribute the toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community.
