Oswego Health’s Digital Mammography Service Accredited

Oswego Health’s digital mammography service offered at Fulton Medical Imaging, 522 S. Fourth Street, has been accredited by the prestigious American College of Radiology (ACR).

The ACR awards accreditation to facilities that achieve high practice standards following a peer review evaluation. ACR accreditation is required to meet the stringent standards of the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) issued by the FDA. Conducting the evaluation are board-certified physicians and medical physicists that are experts in the field.

“Our Fulton location’s digital mammography service joins Oswego Health’s sites in Oswego and Pulaski that have received this important accreditation,” said Kevin Kain, Oswego Health’s manager of medical imaging. “We are very proud that all of our facilities meet the strict requirements of the ACR/MQSA. We have also recently received our three year reaccreditation notification for the digital mammography service at Oswego Hospital.”

As part of the accreditation process, the ACR accesses the qualifications of the Radiologists and imaging staff, film quality, and the adequacy of the facility’s equipment. The surveyors then report their findings to the ACR’s committee on accreditation, which in turn provides the hospital with a comprehensive report.

Along with digital mammography at the Lee Medical Building, Oswego Health provides bone densitometry, Computed Tomography (CT), general x-rays and ultrasound procedures. In the very near future the facility will add nuclear medicine studies. Same day mammography results are available.

The Oswego Health care system includes the Oswego Hospital, The Manor at Seneca Hill, a skilled nursing facility; Springside at Seneca Hill, a retirement living community; an Urgent Care Center in Fulton, as well as numerous services across Oswego County.
