Oswego Health Child and Family Services to Hold December Programs

Oswego Health’s Child and Family Services will hold three upcoming events at its offices located at 98 N. Second St in Fulton, next to Kinney Drugs.

Barbara Mettelman, Ph.D., will offer parenting tips in her presentation titled, “Helpful Tips to Get Through the Holidays” at 12:30 pm. December. 21st. This presentation is open to parents in the community.

On Wednesday, December 28th, from noon until 1:30 p.m. parents can learn parenting tips for their teenagers. Dr. Mettelman will cover some of the tough issues parents face including arguments about curfew, grades, chores, dating, and expectations. At times, parents and teenagers find it difficult to talk to one another and there are other times when neither the parent nor teenager truly hears each other. This session will focus on communication skills and sharing a positive activity. It will also help parents and their teenager develop a contract that will address one or two specific items.

Parents are encouraged to bring their teenager and enjoy a free lunch and ice cream sundae as they listen to Barbara Mettelman, PH.D. Registration for this session is required by December 26th and can be arranged by calling 326-3555 extension 5. There is limited space for this presentation.

The third event, to be held Wednesday, December 28th from 3:30 to 6 p.m. is open to families and promotes good behavioral health through exercise, eating well and having fun.

Families will be provided with parent education materials on a variety of topics, such as ADHD, anxiety, and how to reduce stress in the family. There will also be several fun stations available for participating families. Food and beverages will be available.
