The facility has received the Certificate of Excellence award for its hepatitis B immunization program.

The award, from the New York state Department of Health, recognized efforts to prevent perinatal transmission of the hepatitis B virus.

The Maternity Center achieved 100 percent compliance with the hepatitis B program.

“The nursing staff is committed to providing the best and most comfortable care to our families,” said Kim Hyde, RN, clinical director of the Maternity Center. “Along with our compassionate care team, our facilities are very homelike, offering a wonderful birth experience to area families.”

This award is another quality achievement for the Maternity Center. Last year, the Maternity Center was honored by the New York State Perinatal Quality Collaborative (NYSPQC), which in partnership with the state Department of Health aims to provide the best and safest care for women and infants in the state.

The center was presented with the Obstetrical Improvement Project Quality Improvement Award for its participation in a project that focused on identifying and treating maternal hemorrhage and hypertension, the two leading causes of maternal morbidity and mortality in New York.

In addition to this quality honor, Oswego Health’s maternity center was once again named to the Immunization Action Coalition Birth Dose Honor Roll.

The maternity center was among the 25 hospitals in the state that achieved a 90 percent or higher coverage rate the previous year for the birth dose of hepatitis B vaccine.

To be a part of this honor roll, the maternity center must also provide high quality care to patients.

Oswego Health has been honored with this award for many years as it recognizes the importance of early HBV vaccination.

Oswego Health’s maternity center offers families a comfortable and homey environment, featuring attractive private rooms, each with its own bathroom containing a large soaking tub.

This environment is complemented by the latest technology. A caring and knowledgeable staff oversees the entire family’s needs throughout the birth experience.

The Maternity Center has installed a C-section recovery room for new mothers and their babies, offering a quicker bonding experience for the new family.
