OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Health honored more than 120 employees for their years of service during an employee recognition dinner held May 10. The dinner is held each year in May, which is known to healthcare providers as Healthcare Month.
Among those honored was Susan Henning, a registered respiratory therapist, who has worked for the health system for the past 40 years.
“Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to work in a hospital,” Henning said. “I thought ten years was something. I love to come to work and I am proud of my 40 years here.”
Henning, of Oswego, initially went to school to become a licensed practical nurse.
She joined the healthcare field as respiratory therapy was evolving. To become certified, she studied for two years for the required exam, while she also worked. At the time, respiratory therapy programs were not offered by educational institutions.
Henning adds that all of her five sisters also entered the healthcare field and were nurses.
Other employees recognized at the dinner include those with five, ten, 15 and 20, 25, 30 and 35 years of service, as well as seven individuals who have recently retired.
The Oswego Health care system includes the Oswego Hospital, The Manor at Seneca Hill, a skilled nursing facility; Springside at Seneca Hill, a retirement living community; an urgent care center in Fulton, as well as numerous services across Oswego County.
