Oswego Holiday Tree Lighting Set December 4

OSWEGO, NY – Executive Director of the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, Jennifer Hill has announced that the annual Oswego Children’s Holiday Tree Lighting will be held Dec. 4 at Oswego’s Civic Plaza.

Coordinated by the chamber, the Oswego Children’s Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the arrival of Santa Claus and the Holiday Tree Lighting at 6 p.m.

The city DPW and traffic departments will decorate the city tree, which was purchased and planted by the city in the spring.

The theme for this year’s tree is ‘A Bridge To The Holidays.’

Local school children in grades K-3 will be making bright decorations to add to the tree from can tops donated from Novelis and large colored ornaments courtesy of Flowers By Mr. John.

In addition, students in grades 4 through 6 will be writing Christmas poems.

The winners in each grade will read their poems during the ceremony.

The evening will also include a Nativity scene, and a lighting of the Menorah.

Following the tree lighting ceremony, Santa Claus will be in City Hall to greet children of all ages and hear their holiday wishes.

Light refreshments will be available in the rotunda with the Oswego Lions Club serving hot chocolate, apple juice courtesy of Paul’s Big M, complementary cookies from Cakes Galore and More, and candy canes supplied by Wal-Mart.

Music from Keith Kostoroski and Larry Rapshaw will also add a holiday feel to the event.
