Oswego Library Announces Upcoming Events


OSWEGO, NY – There is plenty going on at the Oswego Public Library in the coming weeks.

The board of trustees meets in the Conference Room the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcomed at this open meeting. The next Board meeting is November 6.

The Oswego Public Library will be closed November 12 in observance of Veterans Day and  November 22 and 23 in observance of Thanksgiving.

Story Hours, funded and supported by the Friends of the Library, take place Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. with a repeat at 1:30 p.m. and Fridays at 10:30 a.m.

Each day has its own theme reflected in the books read and the craft created. There is a snack served at the end of each Story Hour.

Oct. 31- Halloween costume party 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Nov. 2 – Leaders Story Hour 10:30 a.m.
Nov. 7 – Geese/Duck Story Hours 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Nov. 9 – Frogs Story Hour 10:30 a.m.
Nov. 14 – Airplanes Story Hours 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Nov. 16 – Trains Story Hour 10:30 a.m.
Nov. 21 – Thanksgiving Story Hours 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Nov. 28 – Sandwich Story Hours 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Nov. 30 – Soup Story Hour 10:30 a.m.

Wii Fit games will be enjoyed by teens and preteens on Nov. 17 from 12:30 – 3 p.m. during the monthly AmeriCorps fitness event.

On Nov. 24 there will be a special AmeriCorp Nutrition and Exercise Story Hour from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. for all ages.

The Reading Circle will meet to discuss No Biking in the House Without a Helmet by Melissa Fay Greene at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 15.

Writing is a huge November tradition with NaNoWriMo meeting here at least weekly. That’s the abbreviation for National Novel Writing Month if you were curious.

We also have a special workshop on Writing True Life taking place. Brittney Jerred will lead participants in practicing memoir style, writing a legacy letter, and other creative writing exercises.

Oct. 30 – NaNoWriMo kickoff at 6:30 p.m.
Oct. 31 – Oswego Film Group showing The Orphanage at 6 p.m.
Nov. 3 – Write Your Story 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Nov. 3 – NaNoWriMo writing 2 to 4 p.m.
Nov. 10 – NaNoWriMo writing 2 to 4 p.m.
Nov. 17 – NaNoWriMo writing 3 to 5 p.m.
Nov. 20 – NaNoWriMo writing 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Nov. 25 – NaNoWriMo writing 2 to 4 p.m.

Other activities at the Oswego Public Library during November include GED classes run by BOCES, Recreational Readers from Church of the Resurrection, music class from the Eclectic Arts and Sciences Home Association, Excellus Medicare Seminars, Essential Tremors Support Group meeting, Fair Housing presentation, Friends of the Library, Oswego Teachers Employees Federal Credit Union board, Humane Society board, and an ARISE iPad workshop.
