Oswego Men’s Club Hockey Team Comes Close

The Oswego State Mens Club Hockey team hosted rival Cortland recently and fell just short of defeating the Red Dragons at the Campus Center Ice Arena. Falling behind 2-0, the Lakers battled back to come within 1 goal but, even with the Laker goalie being pulled, couldn’t put the puck in the net for the tie.

Scoring for Oswego were Tim Rinck (2), Ryan McAleer, Mike Renick and James Hollowell with assists going to Mike Steinke, Chase Collins, Adam Webster, Chris Covel. Tony Verdon andGreg King (Oswego).

Goalies Mike Reid and Matt McClellan shared the goaltending duties with a combined 26 saves. + Even with the loss, Coach Jay Peacock is pleased with the way the team is playing. All of the lines are scoring and the older players are really stepping up- Junior Tim Rinck has scored 5 goals in the past two games – and the veteran players leadership is really showing.

On Saturday, February 6, the Lakers will honor their three seniors before the Cornell game. Team captain Matt Saramak and James Mitchell have played on the team all four years and Aaron Belair is the past president of the club and currently the Director of Hockey Operations as well as a college referee.

The three, along with their families, will be recognized during a special ceremony. The team will also be wearing thei third jersey for the first time in the Campus Center for this game. The custom made jersey was designed by team alumnus Josh Gagnon, Class of 2009.

Gametime is 1:30 and as always, admission to the game is free. Oswego is a D1 ACHA team and a member of the NECHL which also includes Cornell, Cortland, Binghamton, Ithaca, St. Bonaventure, Penn State Berks and Rutgers. Syracuse will be joining the league next year.
