Oswego Middle School Top 50 Recognized


A celebration of academic success was conducted recently to honor Oswego Middle School seventh and eighth graders.

The tenth Oswego Middle School Top 50 Dinner was held at the Oswego Elks Club and once again parents, families, friends, teachers, administrators and board of education members congratulated the students who have worked diligently in the classroom and at home to earn deserved recognition.

Oswego City School District Board of Education President Kathleen Allen, OMS Principal Mary Beth Fierro, OCSD Director of Personnel and Human Resources Peter Myles, Sunrise Rotary President Lisa Shaw and Rotarian David Friedlander congratulated the students for their academic accomplishments and recognized the support that is provided by parents and teachers.

Once again the Oswego Sunrise Rotary Club, Pathfinder Bank and the Oswego City School District cooperated to provide this special event for the Oswego Middle School academic leaders.

Oswego Sunrise Rotary President Cynthia Tascarella welcomed everyone and congratulated the students. She explained that the Rotarians are proud sponsors of this event.

Principal Fierro noted, “This event marks only a beginning for them (Top 50). They, along with you, their parents, grandparents, friends and family, current and former teachers have set the stage for great things.”

Continuing she said, “For this year’s seventh graders we are looking forward to watching you grow and progress over your next year at the Oswego Middle School and for our Top 25 eighth graders I am positive that you will excel as the Oswego High School and we will watch with pride from a distance over the next four years.”

This year’s student guest list included seventh graders Alyssa Adner, Andrew Baker, Jenna Bradshaw, Nicholas Brown, Nolan Busch, Joan Carroll, Allison Choate, Melissa Chun, Dakota Contryman, Lauren Devinny, Anthony DiBlasi, Jillian Dowdle, Vanessa Flint, Mikayla Hardesty, Lara Kanbur, Willow-Su Knapp, Sofia Loayza, Elizabeth Martin, Derek Morgia, Dane Richardson, Logan Shepardson, Matthew Taormina, Sydney Terpening, Joshua Thomas and Halle Wells,

Eighth graders earning an invitation to this year’s event included Jade Ballard, Emily Bradshaw, Claudia Chetney, Danielle DelConte, Abigail Douglas, Emilee Ekman, Laurin Furlong, Jessica Godden, Grace Hibbert, Dain Jerred, Lauren Jones, Kyle Kon, McKenzie LaDue, Eleanor Lisec, Matthew Mace, Alaina McMahon, Leah Mullen, Laurel Plunkett, Leanna Restani, Cole Ross, Lauren Samson, Kristen Skinner, Katie Smith, Madelaine Taylor and Leah Taylor.

Principal Fierro said, “Each day you lead your peers by example and you do the right thing even when no one is looking. You represent your family and school with pride. Congratulations and keep up the great work.”

In conclusion the OMS Principal noted, “In the words of our sixth President John Quincy Adams, ‘If you actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more you are a leader. Each and everyone of you has inspired me over the past two years  and I am positive you have inspired your families and friends since the day you were born. You are destined for great things. Congratulations and keep up the good work.”
