OMS Principal Mary Beth Fierro said that she was proud of the students for their commitment to their schoolwork and beyond.

“The 50 seventh and eighth graders that we are recognizing this evening are leaders in all areas,” Fierro said. “These students have led their peers in the classroom, in musical performances … they have led on the sports fields, Battle of the Books, the Scripps Spelling Bee, marching band and dance competitions, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, National Junior Honor Society and Student Council …”

In addition to being well-rounded students, Fierro also said that the honorees often perform community service and volunteer work.

“Each student here is an outstanding representative of the Oswego Middle School and the larger Oswego community,” she said. “You represent yourself, your family and school with pride.”
