OSWEGO, NY – The 30th edition of Oswego Minor Hockey Association’s Mite Invitational Tournament will support community members in need at the holidays.
“The Mite Before Christmas Tournament”, will collect non-perishable goods and gently used winter clothing.
The tournament will take place on Saturday, December 12.
Donations are presently being accepted at the Anthony J. Crisafulli rink at Fort Ontario and at the James P. Cullinan rink at Kingsford Park School.
Both venues will play host to this weekend’s tournament featuring more than 200 six-, seven- and eight-year-olds from Central New York.
“For the ‘Mite Before Christmas Tournament’ we wanted to help some of our younger players give back to the community. While they play hockey, some Oswego families are struggling to stay warm and put food on the table,” said Dan Bartlett, president of OMHA. “We are pleased to make a difference in our community by donating the food to the Human Concerns Center, the winter clothing to the Rescue Mission and donating all tournament proceeds to the Food Bank of CNY.”
The “Mite Before Christmas Tournament” will include teams from Auburn, Binghamton, Cortland, Lysander, Midstate (North Syracuse), Oswego, Valley (Syracuse), and Whitestown.
Each team will play four games.
In addition to great hockey there will be vendors, raffle baskets, food and beverages and a special visit from Santa.
The tournament is made possible with support from the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 73.
