Oswego Native Named Assistant Pro

OSWEGO, NY – Mike Hogan has been named Assistant Golf Professional at Oswego Country Club, it was announced today (April 18).

Hogan, a native Oswegonian, joins OCC’s new PGA Head Golf Professional Ryne Varney’s staff.

Hogan, a graduate of Oswego’s Bishop Cunningham High School, has spent the past 18 years at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Auburn as PGA Golf Professional and management role.

Prior to this, he was head golf professional at Battle Island State Park and served as assistant golf professional at Tuscarora Golf Club, Cazenovia Country Club and Dutch Hollow Country Club.

“I am excited to be returning to Oswego Country Club as a professional,” said Hogan. “I look forward to working with Head Golf Professional Ryne Varney in continuing the long-lasting traditions of Oswego Country Club. Oswego is where I started my golf career and it means more than anything to me to return. My wife, Kerry, and three kids, Finley, Tucker and Teagan, are all looking forward to being a part of the Oswego Country Club family.”

For his active role in the Central New York PGA, Hogan was awarded the Bill Strausbaugh Award in 2013. The award is given annually to a golf professional who has been a proven leader and mentor to other PGA professionals and the community at large.

During his time as Dick’s Sporting Goods, Hogan remained involved in player development by offering lessons and clinics in Auburn at Owasco Country Club, Lakeview Country Club and the YMCA.

“We are very pleased that Mike has joined our pro shop staff,” said Tom Van Schaack, president of the board at Oswego Country Club. “This is a new era at Oswego Country Club with a new head pro and newly renovated facilities, and we are thrilled to have a native Oswegoanian on our staff.”
