The Oswego Players and The Church of the Resurrection will present Neil SimonÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s Popular comedy “Barefoot in the Park”, in the popular dinner theater format on the evenings of Friday, October 24th and Saturday, October 25th.Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â The production, directed by veteran director, Inez Manor Parker, is the sixth annual collaboration between the Church of the Resurrection and the Oswego Players.
The original Broadway production of the show opened on October 23, 1963 at the Biltmore Theatre, where it ran for 1530 performances; making it Neil Simon’s longest running show. The cast included Robert Redford as Paul, Elizabeth Ashley as Corie, Mildred Natwick as Mrs. Banks, Kurt Kasznar as Velasco, and Herb Edelman as a telephone installer The show won director Mike Nichols the Tony Award for Best Director of a Play, and other nominations went to Neil Simon for Best Play, Elizabeth Ashley for Best Actress in a Play, and Saint Subber for Best Producer of a Play.
The show follows the adventures of Paul, a conservative young lawyer, who is newlyÃƒâ€šÃ‚Â married to Corrie, a vivacious young woman. Their highly passionate relationship descends into comical discord in a five-flight New York City walk-up apartment.
ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã…â€œBarefoot in the ParkÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â features a cast of local actors including Susan Pierra, as Corrie, Eric Cherchio, as Paul, Sherrie Baker as PaulÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s Mother and Nelson Metz as nosy neighbor, Victor. The production also features the father and son team of Norman Berlin Jr. and the third as a repairman and a delivery boy.
ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã…â€œBarefoot in the ParkÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â will be presented in as a dinner theater on the evenings of Friday, October 24th and Saturday, October 25th with dinner being served at 630 p.m. and the show starting at 7:30 p.m. The show will be performed at the Church of the Resurrection located at 120 West Fifth Street. in Oswego. The menu consists of a traditional ham and scalloped potato church dinner served family style. Show only tickets will also be available.
The cost of the show is $25.00 per person for dinner and a show and $10.00 for show only. Reservations can be made by calling the Oswego Players box office at 343-5138.
