Upon arrival at the residence, responding officers detected a strong odor, consistent with that of marihuana.

As officers continued to investigate, the occupant, 35-year-old Shawn M. Hort, admitted to possessing marihuana.

The Oswego City Police Department Criminal Investigations Division was called in to assist and after further investigation, obtained a search warrant for the residence.

The subsequent investigation and search resulted in the discovery of an indoor marihuana grow located within the basement of the residence.
A total of 175 marihuana plants were seized, in addition to high density lights, two separate air filtration systems and all the necessary hydroponics containers, chemicals and pumps.

Investigators further discovered and seized a large quantity of dried marihuana packaged in several different containers.

The aggregate weight of marijuana seized from the residence was more than 17 pounds.

Four young children were living in the residence.

Hort was arrested and charged with the following:

1 count of first-degree criminal possession of marihuana, a class C felony
4 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a class A Misdemeanor
1 count of unlawful growing of cannabis, a class A Misdemeanor

Hort was subsequently arraigned in Oswego City Court and remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 secure bail bond.
