Oswego Police Make Arrest In Robbery Investigation

OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Police announce an arrest has been made in a recent robbery investigation.

On Aug. 14, at about 3:42 a.m., Oswego Police responded to robbery which had been reported on East Bridge Street in the area of East Third Street.

A 20-year-old woman reported to police that she had been walking in that area at which time she was approached by an unknown man, who propositioned her for sex.

When she declined, the man allegedly forcibly stole her cellular telephone from her hand and attempted to steal her purse.

After a brief struggle, the victim was able to retain her purse.

The suspect ran away from the scene and the victim ran to the Econo Lodge on East First Street, from where she called 911.

The victim was not injured, police said.

On Friday (Aug. 19), at approximately 1:40 p.m., Oswego Police arrested 17-year-old Matthew I. Baker, of 33 Mitchell St., Oswego.

Baker has been charged with third-degree robbery (D Felony), and has been remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bail bond.

He is scheduled to appear in Oswego City Court on Aug. 25 at 9:30 a.m.

Also as a result of the investigation, the victim’s cellular telephone was recovered.
