Oswego Police On The Lookout For ‘Suspicious Male’

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego City Police Department is investigating two reports of a suspicious male following and offering rides to young girls.

A 19-year-old girl reported to police that on Wednesday, at approximately 10:20 a.m. while she was walking in the area of East 10th ½ and Mitchell streets, she was followed by an unknown man for several blocks.

She further reported that the same man has followed her before and has on one occasion asked to give her a ride.

A separate 19-year-old girl has reported to police that, also on Wednesday, at approximately 2:11 p.m. while she was walking in the area of State Route 104 and East Ninth Street, she was followed by an unknown man who repeatedly asked her to get into his vehicle and go for a ride with him.

In both incidents the man was described as a white male, heavy set, approximately 50 years old.

In the first incident he was reported to be driving a blue Ford Ranger pickup truck.

In the second incident, the vehicle description was given as a black Ford Windstar minivan.

Oswego City Police Chief Michael Dehm said, “At this time we do not know if the two incidents are related. I have instructed both the Criminal Investigations Division and Patrol Division to aggressively investigate these complaints and they are pursuing leads and have conducted interviews. Based on that investigation we do not currently believe there is any cause for public alarm, but because of the similarities between the two incidents and their close proximity to one of our elementary schools, and as a precautionary measure, we want the public to be aware. We are also working closely with school district personnel, including our school crossing guards, to keep them informed as well.”

Oswego Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 315-342-8120.
