OSWEGO, NY – Jessica Galvin, public computing center instructor at Oswego Public Library, announces the schedule of classes for October.
Courses at the Public Computing Center are always free of charge. To register for a class, please call 341-5867 or visit the main desk in the public library.
Oswego Public Library is located at 120 E. Second St.
The fall schedule of classes includes some old standbys, plus some new workshops for small business and entrepreneurs.
All are free and open to the public.
Courses that are repeated every month are:
Introduction to Computers and Internet Basics. These courses consist of eight sessions of two hours each, held on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout each month.
These courses are geared to meet the needs of people with no experience, or almost no experience, with computers.
The classes move at a pace that is comfortable for beginners, no matter what their age, and help people overcome any fears they may have about using computers.
It is recommended that people take Introduction to Computers before Internet Basics.
Introduction to Computers begins on Oct. 2 and is offered from 3 to 5 p.m.
Internet Basics also begins on Oct. 2, and is offered from 10 a.m. to noon.
Saturday workshops are planned for individuals who are familiar with computers who want to learn more.
On Oct. 6 there is a workshop to help people who plan to buy a tablet select the right one for them.
iPad vs. Galaxy Tablets takes place from 10 a.m. to noon.
On Oct. 13 a Using Dropbox workshop takes place from 10 a.m. to noon.
Dropbox is an online file storage service that offers up to 2GB of free storage space.
In the afternoon on Oct. 13, from 1 to 3 p.m., there is a workshop of interest to small business and entrepreneurs.
Buying and Selling on EBay will be taught by Instructor Crystal Wilcox.
On Oct. 20, workshop participants will learn Email Basics from 10 a.m. to noon.
In the afternoon of Oct. 20, young people of middle school age can enjoy two hours of Wii Fit, including a healthy snack, from 1 to 3 p.m.
On Oct. 27 owners of a Kindle Fire eBook reader can learn all about its features, including how to borrow and download eBooks from the library.
On Oct. 27, from 1 to 3 p.m., is a workshop of interest to small business and entrepreneurs: Introduction to Excel.
Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program that lets you enter and manipulate sets of data.
The Public Computing Center at Oswego Public Library is open daily except Sundays, with computer and job skills classes and someone to help members of the public with anything computer, technology or job search related.
