Oswego Public Library Artist of October

Sandra Dowie
Sandra Dowie

Sandra Dowie is the featured artist for the month of October at the Oswego Public Library’s Art Gallery. A graduate of Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with a degree in Art, and now a resident of Sterling, her favorite subject is horses. “I want to capture the horse’s personality and grace on my canvas. I seek to find the compassion that is ever present in his demeanor.”

Sandra believes that her talent is God-given; that she needs to use it to share with others and to glorify Him. For four years she has worked on Art Rocks, an art festival in Luverne, Minnesota and she opened a gallery and taught there to inspire others to create and enjoy art.

She is a member of the Art Association of Oswego and has taught classes in oil painting and fused glass. Her work is available at the Lakeside Artisans in Canal Commons in Oswego.

On Sunday afternoon, October 23rd, there will be an artist reception from 2 to 4 PM featuring Equestrian Art, food, and music performed by Harpist Marcella. All are welcome.

The Art Gallery is located on the lower level of the Library outside the Community Room and is open during regular hours. The Library is at 120 East 2nd Street across from the County Courthouse.

  1. So glad to see the art shows are returning. There aren’t that many venues to show work in Oswego, and that little gallery space in Oswego is wonderful. Thanks to all who took the time to organize this show! Can’t wait!

There are artists out there in the community that OPL might want to canvas for other shows. Not everyone who ‘creates art’ is a member of an organization (for a variety of reasons, often personal obligations), so these might be eager artists for future shows.

    Just a thought.
