Oswego Regular Abold Scores Top Five Finish in Star Classic 150

OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Speedway weekly Supermodified contender Jeff Abold traveled to Epping, NH, last weekend for the 49th running of the Star Classic 150 for ISMA Supermodifieds at Star Speedway and returned home with a top five finish in the A&P Automotive No. 05.

Jeff Abold made Oswego Speedway proud with a fifth place finish in the Star Speedway ISMA Supermodified Classic 150 on Sunday.
Jeff Abold made Oswego Speedway proud with a fifth place finish in the Star Speedway ISMA Supermodified Classic 150 on Sunday.

Abold, who finished second in the Star Classic one year ago, started the final leg of the Supermodified Triple Crown in the 11th position and worked his way to a fifth place finish by the end of 150 green flag laps of racing.

The Abold team spent most of 2014 continuing to try and work the bugs out of their 2013 Supermodified design, built for weekly Oswego contention.

After a top five finish early in the year with their latest design and an 11th place effort in the 58th annual Budweiser International Classic 200, the team elected to take their older chassis to Star to once again compete in the 150.

The decision was a wise one for Abold, who battled with the best in the ISMA Supermodified championship throughout to take home a top five run in the biggest Supermodified event held in New England.

Sandusky Hy-Miler Nationals champion Lou Cicconi picked up his third career Star Classic victory over the weekend beating out defending champion Jon McKennedy and seven-time Star Classic champion Russ Wood, making his first Supermodified start since crashing heavily in last year’s Star Classic.

Ben Seitz finished in the fourth position ahead of Abold in the top five.

New England Small Block Supermodified hot shoe Mike Netishen, Eddie Witkum Jr., Jeff Locke, Mark Sammut, and Justin Belfiore finished the top ten.

After failing to make the field for the 58th annual Budweiser International Classic at Oswego, ‘Super’ Dave Sanborn ended the Star Classic 150 in 15th.

Joe Gosek, a two-time Star Classic champion, traveled to New England for the Classic event but struggled to a 17th place finish after finishing fifth in the Oswego Classic.
