Oswego School Board Deals With Principal Posts

OSWEGO, NY – At its meeting Tuesday night, the Oswego School Board accepted the resignation of two principals and appointed another to replace a recently retired principal.

Dr. Dean Goewey resigned as elementary principal (at Minetto).

At July’s reorganizational meeting, the board approved Dr. Goewey as the district’s new assistant superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, replacing the retired Cathy Chamberlain.

Brian Hartwell, Oswego High School Principal, is expected to take over as the superintendent of the Pulaski School District. The board accepted his resignation effective Aug. 22.

The Board of Education approved Larry Schmiegel as the new principal at Leighton Elementary. His starting salary will be $85,000.

Former FLS principal Julie Burger retired at the end of the last school year.

Dr. Goewey is continuing to handle principal duties at Minetto until a new administrator is hired.

The district will post the OHS principal position as soon as Hartwell’s new position is made official.

In another administrative move, the board authorized Dr. Goewey to be the acting superintendent in the absence of OCSD Superintendent Ben Halsey when (Halsey) is out of the district for personal business, family illness and/or vacation.
