Oswego School Board Gets Reorganized – Kind Of


OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego Board of Education held its annual re-organizational meeting on Tuesday.

The vote to name a new president ended in a tie due to the absence of board member James Bell.

Instead of holding a re-vote, the board decided to postpone the vote until next week’s regular meeting.

The vote for a new vice president was also postponed for a week.

The board swore in its two new members Tom Ciappa and Kathleen Allen. Ciappa is a neophyte; Allen is a former board member, even serving a term as president.

They were elected to full three-terms on the board this past May.

The board then acted on various housekeeping items for the upcoming school year, among which were appointments of:

Clerk of the Board of Education and School District Clerk – Karen Canale
Dignity for All Students Act – Robert Duffy
District Treasurer – John Edwards
Deputy District Treasurer – Joyce Galletta
Health Insurance Consultant Services – ENV Insurance
Internal Auditor – Bonadio & Co, LLP
Reserve Internal Claims Auditor – Michael Riley
Records Retention and Disposition Officer – Nancy Squairs
Records Access Officer – Karen Canale
School District Purchasing Agent –Nancy Squairs
Tax Collector – Joyce Galletta
Medicaid Compliance Officer – Lisa Marie Carter
Official Bank Depositories – J. P. Morgan Chase Manhattan Bank, Bank of Mellon and NBT Bank
Official District Newspaper – Oswego Palladium Times

Regular meetings of the board will be 5 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of the month in the board room at the Education Center, location subject to change

Three committee meetings will be followed by the regular meeting on the first meeting of each month.
