OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego City School District’s board of education is looking for one good man or woman to fill the vacant seat on the board.
Interested candidates have until Aug. 27 to apply.
Veteran board member Jim Tschudy resigned his seat effective on July 24.
Tschudy was re-elected to the board in May to fill the remainder of the term of Bill Myer who resigned to take a position within the district.
As a Small City School District, the board members could have decided to conduct a special election, continue with six members or appoint a person to fill the remaining 11 months of the term.
At Tuesday night’s board meeting, they decided to appoint a new member.
“The board is asking for letters of interest and resumes (to be sent to the district clerk’s office) by Aug. 27. The list will be presented to the board at the next meeting. The board will look at the resumes and discuss it, openly,” according to Bill Foley, district clerk. “The board will have to come to a consensus to fill the vacancy.”
The appointment will just be for the remainder of the unexpired term.
A similar situation came up back in the mid-1990s when Stan Delia was appointed to serve on the board.
Mike McLaughlin received 849 votes in May, placing him fourth in the race for three board seats.
He spoke at Tuesday’s meeting and told the board he is still interested in the position.
“I heard about the open seat and I thought it would be a good opportunity again to try and get on the board,” he said. “I want to let you know, I am still interested in it. I’d like to be considered again.”
Those interested should send their letters and resumes to: Bill Foley, District Clerk, at the Oswego Education Center, 120 East First Street, Oswego, NY 13126.
