“The speedway is such an important part of the Central New York and Oswego culture,” said Shane Broadwell, of The Broadwell Hospitality Companies. “And, we are extremely excited to see the positive changes and momentum that the Torrese family is making at the race track and how it is impacting the Oswego and CNY community. We are proud to partner with the Oswego Speedway and grateful for the opportunity to play host to their annual post-season banquet.”
Oswego Speedway Co-owner John Torrese, looks forward to the growing partnership with the Broadwell family.
“Working with everyone at the Best Western Plus, Quality Inn and the Lake Ontario Conference Center has been great,” said Torrese. “Having such a great facility here in Oswego will be outstanding for the city and community as a whole, and we are honored to have our post-season champion’s banquet at the conference center this season. It makes sense for us to stay local and support other local businesses and we look forward to a continued partnership with the Best Western Plus and Quality Inn & Suites.”
The Mitchell’s Speedway Press Oswego Speedway Banquet annually honors the Top 10 drivers in the Hoosier Racing Tire Novelis Supermodified and Pathfinder Bank SBS Series championships.
Several other awards are handed out as well, including the Cleaning for a Reason and Butler Disposal Rookie of the Year awards in the Novelis Supermodified and Pathfinder Bank SBS divisions.
Inductions into the prestigious Oswego Speedway Hall of Fame are also presented during the postseason event.
This year’s hall of fame inductees include Supermodified driver Doug Didero Modified driver George Kent, official Don Beauchene, car owner/mechanic Ed Thompson, and employee Jack McGiff.
The Speedway banquet has been held at several venues over the years, but none as new and as exciting as the Lake Ontario Conference Center. The conference center, which will have a 450-seat capacity, will feature a new lakeview restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as 18 additional hotel rooms.
The Best Western PLUS Captain’s Quarters and Quality Inn is within walking distance from local shopping, fishing, parks, Fort Ontario, the Marine Museum, the Safe Haven Museum and the Richardson-Bates House Museum. A short drive will give you access to local industry, including the Oswego Speedway, SUNY Oswego, the Renaissance Festival and Fair Haven Beach State Park.
