Oswego Squirt 1 Hockey Team Nets a Tie and Loss in Recent Action

Oswego, NY –  The Oswego Squirt 1 Hockey Team skated to a 5-5 tie in Snowbelt League action recently against Camillus, and took a 3-1 loss at home against visiting Onondaga.

Oswego is 3-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the Snowbelt League.

In their game against Camillus, Oswego played hard throughout, with both teams battling back and forth in the contest. Camillus jumped out to a 3-2 lead in the first period. Oswego’s Alex Vescio scored at 8:08 of the first off a feed by teammate Spencer Stepien, who then added his own unassisted goal at the 3:52 mark.

Stepien would score the next 3 goals of the game for Oswego over the next two periods including the tying tally at 3:56 of the third period, making it 5-5. Billy Waterbury added the assist for Oswego.

Oswego net minder Ethan Rando had 12 saves in the game.

“I was proud of the kids for battling throughout this game,” said Oswego Head Coach Dan Taylor. “They responded to every goal Camillus scored and played very hard to secure the tie.”

The following day at Fort Ontario’s Crisafulli Rink, the Oswego Bucs played host to Onondaga and lost a tough game 3-1.

Onondaga jumped out to a 1-0 lead after one period, when Keegan Berry found the net off an assist by Rioux Johnson. Oswego’s Stepien scored at 11:41 of the second from Waterbury to tie it at one apiece, before Onondaga capped off the scoring on goals from Kaden Porter and Johnson.

Oswego goalie Rando had 16 saves in the loss.

“The team continues to work hard and we are seeing some good things on both ends of the ice,” said Taylor. “We just need to continue to need to work hard.”

According to Taylor, the team was also led by Tyler May, Brandon Demling, Cole Cullinan, Bryson Bush, Alex Thorpe, JJ Harter, Aidan Taylor and Derek Sabatini.
