Lakeland, Fla. – The Oswego State baseball team rode a strong pitching effort to shut out Amherst College 4-0 at Kathleen High School on Monday morning (March 17).
With the win, the Lakers move to 6-1 on the season while Amherst suffers their first loss, dropping to 3-1.
Oswego got on the scoreboard in the top of the first as Dan Saccocio singled to lead things off.
John Rauseo followed with a bunt single of his own and then both advanced on a Scott Buniak groundout. Mike McMullen got the RBI when he flew out to leftfield.
The score remained 1-0 until the sixth when a Myles Kutscher double would plate Eric Hamilton.
Kutscher would add another RBI hit in the eighth when he singled in Tim Smith. Smith reached base by viture of a walk and then stole second.
Oswego’s final run would come courtesy of a Tyler Baker walk and Saccocio triple to start the ninth inning.
Tim Cronin picked up the win, throwing six scoreless six innings, scattering seven hits while fanning four.
Pat Brown picked up the save in three innings of one-hit ball while striking out three.
The Lakers are back in action at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday when they take on Allegheny College.
