Oneonta, N.Y. – The Oswego State baseball team needed just two runs in the first inning to outlast Oneonta 2-1 on the road Friday afternoon. With the win, the Lakers improve to 13-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play while the Red Dragons drop to 8-15, 3-2.
For the second-straight outing, Brendyn Karinchak went the distance, throwing a complete-game one-hitter. The junior fanned 13 Oneonta batters while allowing just one run which came in unearned fashion. Karinchak did not allow a base on balls the entire contest.
Dan Saccocio led off the game with a triple to right center field and Scott Buniak played copycat in the next at-bat, tripling to right field to score his teammate. Two batters later, Mike McMullen grounded out to first base, pushing Buniak across home plate for the RBI.
Saccocio and Buniak both finished 2-for-3, each scoring once with Buniak driving in another. McMullen and Eric Hamilton had the Lakers’ other two hits in the contest, each going 1-for-4.
Oswego will take on Oneonta again on Saturday, with first pitch of the doubleheader coming at noon.
